Year 4 Trip - Mountfitchet Castle
Year 4 had an amazing trip to Mountfitchet Castle this week.
The modern reproduction was on the site of an original castle, built by one of the knights who came over with William of Normandy and defeated Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings. We explored the various buildings and equipment as well as considering why so many defences were needed. It was exciting to see a real portcullis, which featured so highly in our reading book from last term, The Legend of Podkin One-Ear. Of particular interest were the many ways for imprisoning and punishing people who broke the law in medieval times. While it was fun to pretend to be in the prison, the stocks or even an iron maiden, it was good to know we could escape whenever we wanted.
